Spring Color Now.
Fall is the time to plant a whole list of bulbs including tulips, crocus, daffodils, hyacinth, and iris. Spring flowering bulbs are offered in a variety of colors and sizes that will make a great impression in any garden.
The following are a few tips on planting spring blooming bulbs:
q Bulbs should be planted when your landscape is showing signs that winter is almost here. Leaf drop from trees is a good indicator that it is time to plant bulbs.
q Plant the bulbs at the depth recommended on the tag. If a bulb is planted too deep it may not reach the soil surface. Planting bulbs too shallow can result in a lack of vigor.
q The third thing to pay attention to is the mature height of the bulb. It is more pleasing to the eye if taller bulbs are in the back of the landscape with shorter bulbs in front.
q The last thing to consider is bloom times. Bulbs bloom at different intervals categorized as early spring, mid spring, and late spring. Most bulbs will bloom before anything else in the landscape, but the bloom duration is not very long. By choosing bulbs with different bloom times, you can have color throughout the spring.
Follow these simple tips and your landscape will have a colorful spring season making it the envy of all your neighbors.
